Volunteers Say…

Contributing to their motivation was really inspiring

Just looking all the grade nine girls talking, having fun and sharing their interest in math made my day. Being able to contribute to their motivation was really inspiring

Strongly aligns with my beliefs of female empowerment and engagement in STEM

This is one event at UTSC that strongly aligns with my beliefs of female empowerment and engagement in STEM. As a volunteer last year, I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the young female students and actively participating alongside them in learning in a hands on manner. Not only was this event informative and education, it truly increased the spirit of the students and increased my passion for support in females in the STEM fields. I believe events like these are extremely important and I would love to contribute my skills and knowledge to make this another successful year for this event.

A pleasure working with the amazing girls

I was a volunteer for MIMGIG for the past 2 years and it has been a pleasure working with you and the amazing girls that come to participate in this event. I would love the opportunity to continue my involvement with MIMGIG this year too!

Had a wonderful time leading a group of girls with a growing interest in math

I volunteered at this event last year, and had a wonderful time leading a group of girls with a growing interest in math. As someone who was a grade nine student with a flourishing math interest not too long ago, I want to continue to help encourage them to act on their interest in learning, and to inform them that they shouldn’t be discouraged by STEM fields because they are generally male-dominated.

Being a positive example for the younger girls

As a female myself, I understand the importance of supporting and encouraging other females to strive for excellence in all fields of study, not only mathematics. This event offers a great opportunity to come together and give confidence to the girls of tomorrow that they can challenge the rules of society by pursuing their (mathematical) careers in academia to their desired extent. I hope to attend this event with the goal of inspiring at least one young girl to find interest in math-related fields and of being a positive example for the younger girls.

Amazing day full of interaction, laughter and thinking

I would love to volunteer again for Math in Motion…Girls in Gear because I had the pleasure of volunteering last year as a group leader. It was an amazing day full of interaction, laughter and thinking: absolutely something I am willing to be a part of again. It is also a great feeling to know that you are contributing to the empowerment of females in STEM related job fields. Many dreams get taken away due to stereotypes and gender normatives which is why events like MIMGIG are incredibly important to inspire girls from a young age to pursue their passions in science and technology.

Aligns with my values of student empowerment

I wish to volunteer for Math in Motion…Girls in Gear because the goal of the event aligns with my values of student empowerment. I believe that having female role models in STEM is important to foster the growth of future leaders in the field and to promote scientific literacy; it is wonderful that this event creates an environment for Grade 9 girls to connect with female role models. I would love to become a part of the MiMGiG team, inspiring and encouraging more female students to engage in STEM.
